For lovers of culture

The 7th arrondissement accommodates some of the most remarkable cultural sites of the capital: the Orsay Museum, the Invalides, the Rodin Museum and the Quai Branly Museum.

The Orsay Museum, situated in the majestic building of the former Orsay train station, exhibits mainly paintings and sculptures by occidental artists from the periods from 1848 to 1914. Some of the masterpieces of famous artists such as van Gogh, Monet, Degas, Cézanne, and Klimt can be admired.

The Invalides, a complex of buildings initiated by King Louis XIV as a home and hospital for war veterans, is easily recognisable thanks to the stunning golden cupola of the Saint-Louis-des-Invalides cathedral. The cathedral contains the ashes of Napoleon Bonaparte in a monumental stone sarcophagus. Another building houses the army museum.
The Rodin Museum, just two steps away from the Invalides, exhibits an impressive collection of the works of the French artist Auguste Rodin. Among the exhibits are famous sculptures such as “The Kiss” and “The Thinker”.
The Quai Branly Museum, featuring art, culture and civilisations from Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas has been inaugurated by Jacques Chirac in 2006. It occupies four buildings designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, one of which is covered by an enormous vegetal wall of 800m².
